Female convicts learn hairdressing (photos)


12 female convicts, who are serving their sentence at “Abovyan” penitentiary institution and are preparing for release, are participating in a short-term hairdressing course organized by the “Civil Society Institute” NGO.

The course started on July 1 and aimed to help women to acquire profession and get a job and stable income after serving their term in prison.

Hairdressing course for female convicts

The initiative is implemented in the framework of the “Better Opportunities for Reintegration of Women Ex-prisoners” program with the financial support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Armenia. The training space has been repaired and furnished in cooperation with the administration of the institution. It has all the necessary equipment, materials and supplies.

The training is conducted by the professional trainer of the N6 State College of Crafts of Yerevan. The participants, who successfully complete the hairdressing course and passed the final exam, will receive certificates from the College.

The course covers main skills of a hairdresser: hair care, haircuts for men and women, evening and everyday hairstyles. Along with theoretical knowledge in each class the participants also acquire necessary practical skills.

The hairstyles are made by the participants of the course.

The authors of the hairstyles are female convicts.

The course has been implemented in cooperation with the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice of RA and “Abovyan” penitentiary institution.
