February 02, 2010

Today the main topic of Armenian press is very different passions, opinions, and interpretations of Strasbourg. For instance, "Hayots Ashkharh" writes "Z. Postanjyan referred not to the evaluation of March 1 events during her speech but tried to prove the importance of her presence".

"Aravot" informs that Prosecutor's office of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative regions of Yerevan has declined the complaint of the deputy of "Heritage" party Zaruhi Postanjyan against the decision of termination of the criminal case on the publications of one of the pro-governmental newspapers offending her.

The paper notes "One can wonder how the investigators and prosecutors would respond if it were opposition newspapers". According to the newspaper this is also another fact that the fines for defamation and offensive expressions will be enforced in a discriminatory manner.

During the interview with "Haykakan Zhamanak" newspaper, Davit Harutyunyan, chairman of the Standing Committee on state and legal affairs, said that there was no new institution in the NA about March 1 events.

According to another article of the same newspaper, "Sil Concern" media and legal service belonging to Sukiasyan family, made an announcement, mentioning that the sale of "Bjni mineral water" CJSC had been done by serious legal violations, which showed that the transaction was invalid.

"Haykakan Zhamanak" also informs that yesterday the network of South Caucasus human rights defenders, which include 30 human rights defenders, made an announcement about Nikole Pashinyan's sentence to 7 year imprisonment.  The network applies to the international community with a request to continue observation of the implementation of the responsibilities by Armenia, and to make pressure demanding to give up the revenge towards the citizens insisting on democratic reforms.

"Haykakan Zhamanak" writes that it was not clear whether Nagorno-Karabakh war veteran and political prisoner Sargis Hatspanyan would be allowed to participate in the funerals of his father. The newspaper informs that it will take place in Germany on Friday. The investigation of the same paper is about the murder of 30 January. According to the Police information on that day 3 corps were found at 22 Leningradyan. The paper writes that the murder was committed by 42 year old shoemaker Mamikon Harutyunyan. He killed his wife, mother-in-law with a rifle and then committed a suicide. It became clear from the talk that Mamikon had been unbalanced person and often threatened his wife that he would kill her. The killed woman has two underage sons, who are under the care of a sick grandfather.

"168 Zham", on the basis of the data of National Statistical Service, writes that 498 cases were registered of committed suicide and suicide attempts.  Most of them were 30 to 65 year old. 48.2% of those who committed suicide were jobless.
