The Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders, a joint programme of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH) and the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), along with the Civil Society Institute, Helsinki Citizen's Assembly Vanadzor Office, the Helsinki Committee of Armenia, the Collaboration for Democracy Centre, Transparency International Anti-Corruption Centre, as well as the Foundation Against Violation of Law, welcome the acquittal of human rights defender Arshaluys Hakobian.

    Today the Court of First Instance of Center and Nork-Marash Communities of Yerevan chaired by Gagik Avetisyan brought in an acquittal in the absence of evidence in the Helsinki Association member Arshaluys Hakobyan's case.

  • The trial of a human rights activist was again postponed

    Criminal case against victims Vahe Badalyan and Ashot Sargsyan of Arshaluys Hakobyan's case was terminated in the Special Investigatory Service. Today Prosecutor Hunan Babayan announced about it in the court of first instance of Kentron and Norq-Marash administrative regions and asked the court to give him one week for examining documents. By the way criminal case was terminated in December 28 and the Prosecutor had about one month to look through them.

    Today court of first instance of Kentron and Nork Marash communities with the head of Gagik Avetisyan has changed the preventive measure of detention of the member from Helsinki Association Arshaluys Hakobyan, who was under detention for 4 months.

    On September 16 in the court of first instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash communities the judge Gagik Avetisyan started the trial of Arshaluys Hakobyan, who is the member of Helsinki Association. The human rights activist is charged under Article 316 of RA Criminal Code (resisting the policeman).
