    The Group of Public Observers Conducting Public Monitoring of Penitentiary Institutions and Bodies of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia has recorded that the administration of the «Artik» penitentiary institution violates the rights of the Editor of «Haykakan Zhamanak» daily Nikol Pashinyan to correspondence and submission of applications and complaints.

She also visited Sasun Mikayelyan, Sarkis Hatspanyan, and Zhora Sapeyan.

    The Court of Appeal, chaired by Serzhik Avetisyan, today dismissed the motions by Nikol Pashinyan's attorneys and the prosecution but applied amnesty to the "Haykakan Zhamanak" editor-in-chief Nikol Pashinyan.

    Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan expressed an opinion that editor-in-chief of Haykakan Zhamanak daily Nikol Pashinyan's sentence term, convicted to 7 years of imprisonment, has to be halved (for the period not carried yet). He noted that the amnesty declared on June 19, 2009 by the National Assembly can be applied to the opposition politician.

    Lusine Sahakyan and Yervand Varosyan, attorneys of Nikol Pashinyan, chief editor of Haykakan Zhamanak, appealed today to the Court of Appeal against the January 19 decision of the Kentron and Nork-Marash court of general jurisdiction, demanding to acquit him.   • Nikole Pashinyan was convicted to 7 years of imprisonment

    The court of first instance of Kentron and Nork Marash communities with the head of Mnatsakan Martirosyan published the decision about the editor of "Haykakan Zhamanak" paper Nikole Pashinyan. The court acquitted a charge against Pashinyan about 316 Article, part 1 of the Criminal Code (exerting violence towards the policeman), instead, found him guilty and gave 7 years of imprisonment on the basis of Article 225, part 1 (organization of mass disorder). The court gave stricter punishment than the prosecutor demanded.
