  • There is a need of Yezidi language specialists

    Yezidi language is not taught at all schools for Yezidi communities in Talin region of Aragatsotn marz. Though the RA Legislation ensures the education right of national minorities (also in their mother tongue), there are children in Yezidi communities who can’t read and write in Yezidi language. The main reason is the absence of specialists.

    14-year-old Yezidi Svetlana and her 11-year-old brother Edgar often miss classes. The reason is the troubles at home which fell on children’s lot after their parents had left for Russia. It is more than two months Svetlana cares about the troubles at home, she lights the stove in the morning, cooks and does the laundry. They have 6 cows, 12 bulls, 6 goats and 20 hens. Edgar helps Svetlana to feed the animals, clean the cattle shed, the elder brother brings water, throws out the dung and sells meat. The money they save they send to their parents in Russia.

    Secondary school number one after Stepan Shahumyan of Lori region, Stepanavan city, has implemented the inclusive education since 2008. Today 41 students with special needs learn at school (children with mental, musculoskeletal disorders, hearing problems etc).

    On December 15, students of the high schools of Akhtala, Haghpat and Aqori of Lori marz discussed positive and negative sides of the inclusive education. They were justifying their pros and cons based on the law provisions, survey results and practical examples. Debate on the topic of «Every child has a right to education» has been initiated by the World Vision Armenia Alaverdi Area Development Program.

  • 300 Orphanage Graduates Remain Homeless (video)

    The number of graduates of orphanages has reached 300: the problem of providing them with residential accommodation is not yet solved. There are graduates of previous years, who got houses, but do not live in them since these places are not in good state. The state allocated houses either in damp basements, or on the top floors of the buildings, where the rain penetrates into houses.

  • There is no kindergarten, community authorities are indifferent

    Only one community has submitted a request for capital renovation of the kindergarten within last three years with the RA Shirak Marzpetaran. While 100 out of 116 communities need kindergartens and there are only 48 kindergartens in the marz.
